Physical Education

Curriculum Intent

Inspire children to enjoy and participate in physical activity, developing a lifelong love of being active.

Impart knowledge so pupils understand movement, rules, strategies, and healthy participation, enabling informed choices about physical activity.

Develop communication by encouraging teamwork, discussion of tactics, and constructive feedback.

Be inclusive, ensuring all pupils can access and succeed in PE through adaptations and positive reinforcement.

Promote citizenship and spirituality by teaching respect, fair play, leadership, and the role of physical activity in personal growth and community.

Curriculum Implementation

PE is taught using the Get Set for PE scheme, which provides clear progression, assessment criteria, and resources.
Lessons focus on three pillars: motor competencies, rules, strategies and tactics, and healthy participation, supported by declarative and procedural knowledge.

EYFS and KS1 emphasize fundamental movement skills (locomotor, stability, manipulation), while KS2 builds on these with more complex skills and competitive games.

Teaching includes clear modelling, explicit vocabulary, regular feedback, and opportunities for practice in increasingly challenging contexts.
Adaptations for SEND ensure full access without diluting content, using scaffolding, differentiated equipment, and positive feedback.
Additional opportunities for physical activity are provided at lunch and break times with varied resources.

Curriculum Impact

Pupil voice shows high levels of enjoyment, confidence, and ability to use subject-specific vocabulary.
Pupils demonstrate progression in skills and knowledge, applying them in sequences, games, and performances.
Assessment is ongoing, focusing on key skills essential for future learning, with end-of-unit evaluations.
The curriculum fosters resilience, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle choices, preparing pupils for lifelong participation in physical activity.
