Home Learning
Research has shown that setting home work in Primary schools has a minimal impact on their academic outcomes and in turn can cause stress and friction within the family unit.
It has also been found that responsive parent-child interactions, reading, routines and play can really support children's development at all ages.
When the children are at the school they are expected to work hard so when they get home we want our children to develop their interests and talents in other areas such as music, sports, art and drama.
Below is a summary of the general home learning expectations for the school.
Other activities that will support the children’s learning
EYFS
- Play games with the children involving dice to familiarise themselves with 1-6 and counting.
- Engage the children in conversations and model how to respond. Use more challenging language and tell them what it means.
- Encourage the children to draw, colour, write and use playdough to build fine motor skill muscles
- Go to the park to encourage gross motor skills such as climbing and swinging
KS1
- Have lots of conversations with the children and model new language. Ask them to explain something
- Play board games and strategy games
- Encourage the children to do puzzles and mazes
- Encourage the children to draw, colour, write and use playdough to build fine motor skill muscles
- Cook together and measure quantities
- Go to the park to encourage gross motor skills such as climbing and swinging
- Get children to write shopping lists with you
KS2
- Continue to play games with the children such as card games and strategy board games to develop problem solving
- Involve the children in life e.g get them to support with the shopping and finding best value for money
- Engage the children in debate where they have to justify things. This can be fun and simply over dinner like ‘Would you rather…..?’
- Encourage them to be curious and to research things if they are not sure.
- Encourage the children to start managing routines in terms of time keeping and forward planning
