English as an Additional Language (EAL)

What is EAL?

EAL stands for English as an Additional Language.
A child is considered an EAL learner if English is not the main language spoken at home, and they are developing their English skills alongside their everyday learning.
EAL pupils may be new to English, fluent in more than one language, or anywhere in between. Being an EAL learner is not a special educational need; it simply means the child is building confidence and proficiency in English while also benefiting from the strengths and richness of their multilingual background.
