Curriculum Intent

Inspire - To develop a lifelong interest in the world, cultural diversity and sustainability 

Impart Knowledge - Teach key geographical concepts and skills

Develop Communication - Through discussion using geographical vocabulary 

Be Inclusive - Ensure all learners can engage with geography through well designed scaffolds and resources

Promote Citizenship - So children understand and respect similarities and differences between the places they study

 

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum for Geography matches the expectations of the National Curriculum but has been adapted to meet the aims of our curriculum. 

The curriculum is structured around 4 key strands:

1) Locational knowledge - The physical location of places in relation to other places

2) Place Knowledge - Describing a place using physical and human features

3) Environmental, physical and human processes- The processes involved with geography both physical (e.g erosion) and Human (Trade)

4) Geographical skills - Using maps, globes and fieldwork

 

The children study three Geography units a year (1 per term)

Pupil voice and work evidence show strong engagement, enjoyment, and retention of learning.
