Curriculum Intent

To Inspire creativity and resilience through hands-on projects solving real-world problems.

Impart knowledge by integrating skills from mathematics, science, engineering, art, and DT, fostering innovation and critical thinking.

Develop communication so pupils can articulate ideas, evaluate designs, and collaborate effectively.

Be inclusive, ensuring all learners progress through scaffolding, resources, and respect for diverse ideas.

Promote citizenship and spirituality, encouraging pupils to understand the impact of design on society and become resourceful, enterprising citizens.

Curriculum Implementation

The school uses Kapow Primary’s DT scheme, aligned with the national curriculum, covering six key areas: Structures, Mechanisms, Textiles, Electrical systems, Digital world, and Cooking & nutrition.

Lessons follow a structured cycle: Recap & Recall, Attention Grabber, Main Event, and Wrap-up, with adaptive strategies for SEND and EAL learners.

Curriculum design is spiral, revisiting skills with increasing depth and building on prior knowledge.

Teaching emphasizes four strands: Design, Make, Evaluate, and Technical Knowledge, supported by high-quality resources and CPD for staff.
