Art
Curriculum Intent
Inspire: Through diverse materials, techniques, and exposure to various artists.
Impart knowledge: Develop deep understanding of artistic skills and critical analysis.
Develop communication: Through discussion, interpretation, and expressive vocabulary.

Promote citizenship and spirituality: By exploring cultural diversity, and promoting social awareness in art.
Curriculum Implementation
Art is taught using the Kapow scheme of work, which aligns with National Curriculum and progression competencies. The curriculum is structured around five strands:
1) Generating Ideas
2) Using Sketchbooks
3) Making Skills (including formal elements like line, shape, and colour)
4) Knowledge of Artists
5) Evaluating and Analysing
Lessons are sequential and follow a spiral model, revisiting key skills over time with increasing complexity.
Units are organised into four core areas: Drawing, Painting & Mixed Media, Sculpture & 3D, and Craft & Design.
Impact
Pupil voice and work evidence show strong engagement, enjoyment, and retention of learning. Students use subject-specific vocabulary confidently and produce high-quality, age-appropriate work.
